The nature of a cloud hosting by using a network of locally and globally connected servers means new avenues in advertising.
If a business is using a commercial cloud computing network, when a consumer connects to their cloud they connect physically to the closest server unit to themselves. It is from this unit that the cookies are downloaded and the session id is formed for the website. Likewise when the consumer enters the business’ cloud their IP address is registered and used for locating which server is closest to them.
This offers an avenue of advertising where an automated process within the cloud selects from a number of predetermined messages and banners which are suitable for your IP location and display them on the website alongside its standard content. This way a consumer from England is not being offered a free coffee from a Las Vegas café.
The server space required to hold the regionalized advertizing banners and graphic is nominal against the potential extra revenue for providing the advertizing.
